The HIA Hospice Team

The HIA Hospice team is made up of highly trained professionals and dedicated volunteers who collaborate to provide compassionate care tailored to you and your loved ones. Whether you’re at home, in a senior living community, or at HIA Heather’s House, the team is there to support you. Care is guided and overseen by an experienced hospice medical director, ensuring the highest level of service.

Team of Experts

HIA Hospice’s Medical Director and Physicians

  • Oversees the plan of care
  • Works collaboratively with HIA Hospice nurse practitioners

Nurse Practitioner

  • Works closely with HIA Hospice physicians, providing medical care to patients by managing the symptoms of their illnesses
  • Provides support through teaching, advocating and training

Nurse

  • Provides expertise in pain and symptom management
  • Visits as often as necessary to assess medical needs
  • Offers support 24 hours a day, seven days a week to respond to a crisis or medical emergency, and assists family in caregiver role

Certified Nursing Assistant

  • Helps with personal care needs, such as feeding or bathing assistance, shaving or nail care
  • Offers light housekeeping services

Social Worker

  • Provides emotional support for patients and loved ones
  • Helps resolve issues that may occur with a prolonged illness
  • Assists with financial, legal and insurance issues, and identifies community resources for additional support

Chaplain

  • Provides spiritual support to patients of all faiths, if desired
  • Communicates with patient’s or family’s clergy
  • Assists with funeral arrangements

Volunteer

  • Provides companionship to patients, and offers caregiver respite support
  • Assists in the office, at special events, and in special roles, such as pet therapists and hair stylists

Grief Specialist

  • Offers 13 months of grief support services for loved ones
  • Provides grief and loss support groups, which are available to all community members at no charge
  • Serves as a community resource, speaking about death, dying and end-of-life topics as requested

Other Therapists

  • A patient may also receive care from a physical, occupational or speech therapist, if needed, for the relief and management of their life-limiting illness.

Meet the Medical Team

Our medical team consists of physicians and nurse practitioners who work collaboratively to deliver person-centered care. Along with the full hospice team, our patients receive individualized care based on their priorities and goals.

Mark Rostad, MD, Medical Director

Dr. Mark Rostad is a board-certified internal medicine physician and is board-certified in Hospice and Palliative Medicine. A North Dakota native, he earned his medical degree from the University of North Dakota School of Medicine & Health Sciences in Grand Forks. Dr. Rostad is certified in both internal medicine and hospice and palliative medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Dr. Kinsey Nelson, MD

Kinsey Nelson, MD, Physician

Originally from north Fargo, Dr. Kinsey Nelson joined HIA Hospice in 2026. He earned his undergraduate degree from Gustavus Adolphus College and completed his medical degree at the University of Minnesota, and spent eight years practicing in the Twin Cities providing comprehensive care in family medicine and primary care. Dr. Nelson values the long-term relationships he builds with his patients and believes that partnering with them to create individualized care plans is at the heart of effective primary care. His interest in hospice care grew from witnessing the compassionate care his grandfather received near the end of his life, affirming how meaningful it can be for patients and their loved ones. Outside of work, Dr. Nelson enjoys spending time with his family, attending his young children’s activities, traveling and staying active, and he is an avid runner who has completed multiple marathons and half-marathons.

Mayson Bedient, DO

Mayson Bedient, DO, Physician

Dr. Mayson Bedient is originally from the Finger Lakes region of New York. He earned his undergraduate degree in English from the University at Buffalo before attending the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine. Later, completing his family medicine residency in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Here, Dr. Bedient worked closely with a hospice and palliative care physician, sparking his passion for end-of-life care. Dr. Bedient has experience practicing full-spectrum family medicine, including nursing and hospital care. He has also worked in an outpatient clinical role. When not working, Dr. Bedient enjoys spending time with his wife and three children, who are actively involved in theater and sports, and as a family they enjoy attending local events, Fargo Force games and visiting the library.

Lori Kuehne, MD, ABFM, HMDC, Physician

Dr. Lori Kuehne has been a Family Physician for 30 years. She spent the first 25 years of practice in a private Family Medicine Office in Dover, Ohio and the last 5 years working in Hospice and Palliative Medicine. Dr. Kuehne has been a physician with HIA Hospice since 2022. Lori attended both West Virginia University as well as Wright State University. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Engineering in 1986 from Wright State. Her MD degree from Wright State in 1990. She completed a residency in Family Medicine. She is board-certified in family Medicine as well as Hospice and Palliative Care. She also holds a Hospice Medical Director Board Certificate. Lori resides in New Philadelphia with her partner Jim Moore. They have one son Jonah who attends Walsh University in North Canton. Lori enjoys time with her family, travel and mission work.

Dr. Anne Harper, MD

Anne Harper, MD, Physician

Dr. Anne Harper is an internist who has practiced exclusively hospice and palliative medicine for the last 20-plus years. She received a Bachelor of Science in Biology with minors in Chemistry and English and graduated from Northeastern Ohio University’s College of Medicine (now called NEOMED). Dr. Harper practiced rural internal medicine as a solo practitioner, worked in public health as Health Commissioner, and was Medical Director of the county health department before focusing on hospice care. For the last 10 years, she has been in a small, freestanding hospice inpatient unit and has seen firsthand the irreplaceable benefit of facilities such as HIA Heather’s House.

Ashwini Gade, MD

Ashwini Gade, MD, Physician

Dr. Ashwini Gade is board-certified in family medicine. She received her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree before completing a residency in radiation oncology and family medicine. Dr. Gade has vast experience working in long term and continuing care.

Jennifer Johnson, DNP, MSN, APRN, FNP-C

Jennifer Johnson, DNP, MSN, APRN, FNP-C, Nurse Practitioner

Jennifer (JJ), nurse practitioner, has formal training and experience providing hospice care, palliative care and chronic pain management. She received national recognition within the Fargo VA Health Care System for providing safer and more effective pain management.

Lindsey Lutzwick, AGPCNP-BC, Nurse Practitioner

Lindsey has formal training and experience providing primary care, palliative and hospice care. She is an adult-geriatric nurse practitioner and brings several years of experience caring for geriatric patients. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at University of North Dakota and then earned her Master of Science degree at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks, North Dakota. She holds a national certification with American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
