Honoring Those Who Serve: Quilts of Valor Celebrates HIA Hospice Veteran Volunteers

On Thursday, October 23, 2025, HIA Hospice welcomed members of the local Quilts of Valor Foundation for a heartfelt ceremony recognizing the service of its Veteran Volunteers.

It was a day filled with gratitude and reflection, an opportunity to honor those who have dedicated their lives to serving others, both in uniform and in our community. These remarkable individuals not only served our country but continue to serve today through their volunteer work with HIA Hospice, bringing comfort, connection and dignity to fellow Veterans receiving hospice care.

During the event, each Veteran Volunteer was presented with a Quilt of Valor®,  a hand-stitched, high-quality quilt awarded to Service Members and Veterans who have been touched by war. Each quilt is carefully crafted to express a single, powerful message: “Thank you for your service and sacrifice in serving our nation.”

The Quilts of Valor Foundation is a national nonprofit organization founded in 2003. To date, it has awarded hundreds of thousands of quilts across the country, each one recorded and labeled to mark the story of the recipient. Every quilt represents the warmth of appreciation and the healing power of community.

At HIA Hospice, these values hold special meaning. The ceremony reflected not only gratitude for our Veteran Volunteers, but also the deeper mission that guides all we do, “Embracing Moments that Matter is Hearts In Action.”

For more than 40 years, HIA Hospice has walked beside patients and families through life’s most challenging moments, providing comfort, care and connection when every moment matters. Recognizing our Veteran Volunteers through the Quilts of Valor Foundation reminds us that compassion and honor are the threads that continue to bind our community together.
